Nanoscale Layered Metal-dielectric Probes (nanoLAMPs) for Highly Sensitive Multiplexed Detection of Pre-metastatic Cancer Cells

Born and raised in London to Srilankan Tamil parents from Jaffna, Sean Sivapalan completed his undergraduate education in Imperial college London in 2007. He is currently pursuing his graduate studies in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Illinois. His research work under the guidance of Prof. Catherine Murphy is on Surface engineering gold nanoparticles of unique geometries for use in optical limiting materials and surfaced enhanced Raman based applications. Sean's career goals are to become a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary scientist with the ability to address fascinating new problems. Apart from studies, he is an avid soccer fan and player (indoors and outdoors when not too cold). He is also a member of Amnesty International and Champaign Youth Soccer Coach Boys Grades 3-5.
